Summary

I wanted to have something more interactive than the usual shaker ornament, so this design has 'inside' and 'outside' scenes with a working door that allows the "family" to go from one side of the ornament to the other.  Kids can play with it, seeing if they can get different sets of pieces on the correct sides, like 'Mom', 'Dad', and 'kids' inside while the cat and the dog are outside.

The design uses a clear ornament from JoAnn Fabrics (#20148615) cut in half, pieces of laser engraved/cut basswood, hinges made of watch pins (technique in my projects), and is put together with a hot glue gun.
